What is aftercare?

Detox deals only with the physical dependency that one has on alcohol, so all detox options that we offer are also accompanied by integrative aftercare programs.

There are multiple aftercare options that are available. These programs address the precedents of addiction, including the psychological aspects, social factors and behavioural and emotional issues that are often associated with addiction. Additional treatment options are also available to prevent relapse.

Your aftercare package will be customised to accommodate your unique circumstances and requirements that you might have. Any of the following may be used in aftercare:

– CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)

CBT helps a patient accept past events and traumas they have experienced and how they may contribute to behavioural patterns and stressors, including alcohol addiction. Different methods of therapy are introduced including belief and self-esteem issues, emotional exploration, the 5-factor model and being able to identify triggers that lead to addictive behaviour.

– Alternative Therapies

Alternative therapies are available to help with a patient’s aftercare. These alternative therapies include massage, meditation, reflexology and reiki. These alternative methods help relax the body and mind and increase mindfulness and self-awareness about behaviours that lead to addiction.

– Mutual Aid Programs

We will provide supported integration into mutual aid rehabilitation support groups. These groups include Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

– Weekly Aftercare Meetings

This is a service that we provide that gives former clients the opportunity to share fellowship and support with other clients who have graduated from the programme, as they are all on a recovery journey. Integration into these may occur during detox treatment.

All the aftercare methods mentioned above might be delivered in any of the following ways:

• Residential Treatment

This is where a patient will go directly from alcohol detox to one of our alcohol rehabilitation centres in the UK to continue with their treatment, receiving help from in-house specialists. In a lot of cases, the client will begin therapy treatment while still in detox to allow for a smooth transition into in-house treatment.

• Outpatient Aftercare

Graduates of our detox programme are eligible to receive outpatient aftercare through clinic-based sessions daily as needed. Outpatient aftercare may also include addiction key work sessions, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), mutual aid meetings, rational emotive behavioural therapy, and patient recovery forums.

Additional therapeutic approaches are used in aftercare as well. Attending aftercare while on an outpatient basis allows the patient to experience the full therapeutic value of residential rehab while being able to return to the comfort of their home after therapy. This is also an ideal programme for those who need to return to work, family and other life commitments but are still in need of therapy and treatment.

Absolutely yes, so many people are not even aware they have a mental health problem and many people don’t make the connection in children and mental health. The alcohol can become a ‘solution’ for a persons mental health. At the start it will seem as if the alcohol is quieting the mind, but in time as the addiction progresses it will only add to any mental health problems the person has. It is also difficult to diagnose a person with mental health while under the influence of alcohol.

As well as being directly related to many serious diseases, drinking large amounts of alcohol can also lead to poor sexual performance, and it can harm an unborn baby. If you have an alcohol related problem, there are many ways in which you can get help to reduce your drinking, and there are also many services that you can use that will help you stop altogether. Definition The problems associated with alcoholism, or alcohol dependence, are wide ranging, and can be physical, psychological, and social.

There is no definitive cure for addiction. However, rehab can provide patients with the skills needed to successfully manage their addiction and remain sober. Recovery from addiction is never over and patients will need to work on their ability to avoid relapse for the rest of their lives. A high quality addiction rehab programme sets patients up for this process.

Most people can enjoy a casual night out with friends, have one or two drinks and then stop, and they might not drink again for several days. They enjoy a drink, but they don’t NEED it.
